...a group of concepts building youths

OLAOLUWA IGE ALOBA is a Peer Health Educator and a studying Psychologist. Found MAY FOUNDATION out of the passion, to positively enhance and empower his immediate society and beyond.

I write to sincerely appreciate all our generous and inspiring members, creative team, partners, sponsors, friends and well wishers. It’s been a great and impact year with your support.

Over the past couple of days, I have been doing a reorganization of my thought system. I saw that trying to streamline the core people in my team is like streamlining the impact that is achievable. Perhaps this gap is due to my nature of not losing the focus and the core vision of the organization.
So for this coming year 2012, MAY FOUNDATION will become a group of concepts building youths with more impactful, more inspiring and more people will be involve in the decision making process of project and delivery of services to our community and beyond. I will like to say that supporting the legacies of MAY FOUNDATION is key to building a society/ country with a renewed value, thought process, integrity, positive youth.

All our members on our virtual world like facebook, twitter, yahoomail; Gmail, etc are now going to be actively involved in the decision making process, committees, and volunteers. In so doing, we will have a wide spread of impact all across the country.

Four Virtual Channel of Information Technology by 'LAOLU ALOBA

Today, the amount of business carried out over the Internet is growing fast and has developed to become the business arena for a number of players of all sectors, size and nationality. Most of these companies are putting considerable effort into conquering an anticipated market, offering appealing, attractive and often expensive interfaced web pages over the Internet.
The Internet has created the next revolution in marketing. It has opened up brand new communication channels, the Web, e-mail, and mobile devices with the promise of even more new channels as the wireless era unfolds.
There are many influences that may, to some degree act upon the purchasing decision of a customer. Marketers may have influences on customers, but there exists more powerful influence that marketers have little influences upon, such as socio-cultural influences, Psychological Influences (Attitude, Learning, and Personality).
The use of IT as a Marketing tool has different effect the diagram outlines the main influences that act upon a consumer.

There are (4) FOUR VIRTUAL CHANNELS of Information Technology (IT) which can create a synergy for effective marketing.

Ø  INFORMATION CHANNEL- it’s a medium that defines the company’s economic agent and accessible products, service related information, and explains the stuff the company’s has to offer the customers.
Ø  COMMUNICATION CHANNEL-it’s a medium that engage in the relationship, ideals and opinion building activities such as lobbying, negotiating etc.
Ø  DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL – it’s a medium that defines the company’s economic agent, the distribution of products and services (digital goods and contents etc)
Ø  TRANSACTION CHANNEL- it’s a medium that defines the company’s economic agent to initiate and execute business related transactions (payments, orders etc)
The survey indicated that the total number of Internet users during the year 2000 was
60,850. From the survey it resulted the age group of main users was registered amongst the 16-24 years bracket. The use of Internet decreased proportionally with the rise in the age. (The
Information Society marketplace 2002)

E-Business
It alters the business foundations and it is not about automating parts of the business that was often the case, but about rethinking and redesigning business models, which is essential for surviving in an information era. Most organizations have found that success in e-business is typically based on building efficient value-added relationships with their customers. For example, the travel industry offers on-line bookings, through which the company can gain valuable insight about the need of its customers

E-Commerce
E-commerce is any networked enabled business practice such as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), the World Wide Web, direct telephone connection e-mail and more.
TYPES OF ADVERTISING ON THE INTERNET
An article by Chaplin identified five general types of web advertising formats which are:
1. BANNERS -an advert appearing at the top of a web page
2. VERTICAL COLUMNS - on a frame web page positioned alongside requested content (often as form of sponsorship)
3. POP-UP WINDOWS - Java script opens a browser window with an advert
4. INTERSTITIALS - full screen adverts that appear on a web browser while a page is loading
5. ADVERTORIALS - content-based advertising related to an article or other site content.

CUSTOMER SERVICE ON THE INTERNET
The Internet has gathered a great deal of hype and media attention in the past few years.
The descriptions of the Internet as a whole new way to communicate and to do business, is now a fact that cannot be contradicted.
It would be improper to ignore a new way to communicate with one’s customers. Today, a number of companies are building websites in order to communicate to their customers instead of with them. Most Web sites are created to provide an electronic brochure, essentially the Internet version of a sales pitch, a sort of on- line Television Ad. Customers can get the specific information they're interested in, but companies are giving little thought to two-way communication. Companies have to identify the Internet as a communication tool rather than a broadcast medium. Brand managers and market researchers must fully embrace the Internet if they are to learn from their customers

IMPORTANCE
The Internet offers a whole new way to establish rapport with customers. Answering customer questions, solving their problems, and selling them additional products can now be computerized.
The Web offers an additional means of creating the all-important bond of trust and loyalty between buyer and seller. The web has given customers another means of conducting business. The rewards have been lower customer service costs and higher customer satisfaction. These are clearly goals to be envied.

LITERACY IS THE SUREST AND THE MOST EFFECTIVE MEANS TO TRUE EDUCATION SAYS MR `LAOLU ALOBA (INITIATOR OF MAY FOUNDATION)

Computer Literacy, knowledge and an understanding of computers combined with the ability to use them effectively. On the least specialized level, computer literacy involves knowing how to turn on a computer, start and stop simple application programs, and save and print information. At higher levels, computer literacy becomes more detailed, involving the ability of the “power users” to manipulate complex applications and, possibly, to program in languages such as BASIC or C.
According to the Initiator of COMPUTER LITERACY CENTER, Mr `Laolu Aloba (MAY FOUNDATION), the lack of widespread basic computer literacy poses a fundamental challenge for developing nations.  Literacy rates increased from about 60 percent of the world’s population in 1970 to 77.4 percent in 1995. However, due to the rapid increase of the world’s overall population, the number of illiterate people has also grown. We are determine to train young Nigerian and other nationals to attain their full potential and develop the high level of professionalism needed to perform excellently in their future careers and to be useful, productive and responsible members of the society.
The mission of the COMPUTER LITERACY CENTER according to Mr `Laolu Aloba (MAY FOUNDATION), provide a balanced programme that will enhance and empower the development of appropriate computer skills (literacy) and creativity in youths to enable them participate fully in the socio-economic engineering of their nations in the future.
The campaign for a COMPUTER LITERACY CENTER needs the support of well meaning individuals and widespread public support for reasons that include considerations of literacy as a fundamental human right and as a prerequisite for modern development and democracy. Literacy campaigns have mandated compulsory education for children as the basic method to combat illiteracy in developing nations.

In honest hands, literacy is the surest and the most effective means to true education. In dishonest hands, it may be a most dangerous, in fact a suicidal, acquisition. World Literacy Rates of 2005 says   Nigeria literacy rate is 70.7 percent (Male -77.8 percent and Female-63.8 percent). The future of the world to develop lies in the hands of every one of us and the decisions of today will be the solution for a bright rewarding future. The COMPUTER LITERACY CENTER is a breeding ground for development of skills and enlightenment. Join us as we create the lasting impression for successful youths in our society.

Never Let a Crisis Go To Waste Again -Written by 'Poju Oyemade

In the wake of the financial meltdown the former Chief of Staff to President Obama, Rahm Emanuel uttered this statement. He was well criticized by the right-winged opposition but I found that statement to be loaded and factual. It was consistent with the Newtonian law of Inertia that states "every object remains in a state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an outside force".
That external force that compels you to act in a different way and wakes you up from a slumber is called crisis. Some have termed crisis to be the father of all things for man never discovered God through wisdom or philosophy but through his needs.
Rahm Emanuel was articulating an age-long fact that crisis gives you options, creates new possibilities, allows you room to maneuver and in some cases gives you the space you need to negotiate your way out of controlling relationships. You are forced to act otherwise or you perish. It is your refusal to change course that makes the crisis harsh and brings the lives of people to a halt.
Pride is the manifestation of a belief system that simply states “my convictions are right regardless of the facts presented before me”. It is a decision to impose your views on reality and not to learn from the facts presented to you. I have always believed that this life will only work favourably for us if we take it as a learning experience.
To Christians who by nature of our faith are “doctrinal” in our orientation we face a challenge here. The challenge is to discern the difference between a right adjustment in your belief systems and the compromise of your faith. Will we grow in the knowledge of our faith or get the initiated into tradition.
It’s easy to say think outside the box which is what is required but in practice, Christians are dogmatic in their approach to issues. Traditional thinking replaces insight into worldly affairs through the lens of the word God. The real reason a crisis comes your way is to crack the outer shell (protective) atimes, you have lived in and to allow you to pursue new options. This is not a spin on reality but the truth about life. It’s not a cliché but truth with historical backing. The cardinal sin against your destiny when a crisis appears is to desire strongly to return to status quo. What you should do instead is wave our present reality goodbye. Have its funeral service quickly let the days of mourning be short so that you can wake up to the new possibilities in your life. The three things you lose through a crisis are your limitations, weaknesses and sense of servitude. You also probably lose relationships you think you need but, subtly hold back your destiny.
These are replaced by a greater sense of independence and liberty, strength and a sense of mastery over the circumstances of life.
An experiment carried out by Jacques Loeb, M.D., PH.D a member of the Rockefeller Institute with parasites indicates that even the lowest order of life is enabled to take advantage of crisis if they are willing to shed their weaknesses and take up the mind set of an independent.
“A potted rose bush brought into a room and placed in front of a closed window. If the plants are allowed to dry out the parasites, previously wingless change to winged insects. After the metamorphosis, the animals leave the plants, fly to the window and then creep upward on the glass. It is evident that these tiny insects find that the plants on which they had been thriving were dead and that they could therefore secure nothing more to eat and drink from this source. The only method in which they could save themselves from starvation was to grow temporary wings and fly, which they did”.
If a much less order of life could grow wings to meet with the challenge, it is clear that defeat only sets in because people want to meet today’s challenges with yesterday’s abilities.
To succeed requires growth and the development of inherent abilities. Abilities unknown to anyone else but is part of your spiritual make-up.
To succeed doesn’t depend on help from without and increasing dependency but growth from within.
To succeed you must face the reality of your situation. You want to know the actual facts on the ground no matter how bad it sounds. You must not go into denial about the facts or to play the blame game. That is not leadership. Crisis always calls for leadership.
If you hold a leadership position within an organisation don’t delegate a crisis. Take control of it and resolve it.
The first law of success therefore is, GRIP IT. Don’t deny its existence, embrace it. Don’t pray that it departs; embrace it in order to consume it. A crisis will help you with the hubris problem, that is, the arrogance of success. It will put you in touch with your humanity and the weaknesses and limitations you want to grow out of. If you respond rightly you will be a much stronger knowledgeable and liberated person with an additional grace of humility to your advancement.
I will sign off with these two principles embrace crisis and read it. Approach it with a heart of gratitude embracing it as an instrument of growth and then read through the lives of other people who faced similar challenges and surmounted them. Read until you are ready, your present situation in the lives of others and then you will know the options that are available into you.

5 Simple Tricks to Looking Younger

Age can be so annoying. If birthdays were recyclable, we'd all be environmentalists. But is it worth going under the knife to fake away a few years? (The recent uptick in celebs on plastic-surgery benders is a little unnerving.) Don't worry: These six switches will make you look younger without a lot of drama.

SKIN
Instead of: Soap and water
Try: Creams and lotions
Scrubbing your face actually dries and ages the skin. The new regimen? Cleanse gently, moisturize daily, swear by SPF 30, and think about an anti-aging cream."Over-the-counter products are best for people in their 20s and 30s," says
Dale Isaacson, MD, associate clinical professor in the department of dermatology and medicine at George Washington Medical Center. "Once you get into your 40s, you probably need something stronger." Among the ingredients used to reduce fine lines and restore texture, so far vitamins C and A seem to stand out. In drugstore creams, look for L-ascorbic acid and retinol (the forms of vitamins C and A you want). At the prescription level, retinoids (like Retin A) have the most science behind them. Isaacson also uses formulations with high concentrations of vitamin C, growth hormones, and coffeeberry.

MAKEUP
Instead of: Cover and hide
Try: Let there be light
Glopping concealer under your eyes (naturally, our first impulse) is the worst thing you can do, says
Hollywood makeup artist Kerry Herta—it just enhances the crinkles. To hide the bags, dab a light-reflecting coverup, and don't use powder unless it's loose and finely milled. "If you've never curled your lashes, now is the time to start," Herta says. "It will give the illusion of a more open eye,"—as will building the mascara at the center of the lash. As for the rest of the face, "the compact has to go," she says. "Replace it with a liquid foundation."  And brash lipstick can backfire; you'll look younger with soft colors and a little gloss on top. Or, if you just want a little oomph, try a tinted moisturizer. "The whole idea is to keep a luminosity to the skin rather than to mattify it," Herta says. "The look of youth is radiance."

HAIR
Instead of: Dyeing darker
Try: A touch of shine
Yes, even if you're grey. In fact, that four-letter color can look edgy on the right person, especially with a few blond highlights, says
Terrence Michael Renk, a stylist at J Beverly HIlls who works in TV and film. "More important than dyeing," he says, "is the texture: Young hair is shiny, and that gets lost when we age." Renk loves to glisten things up with glazes—clear or in warm demi-colors. Also the cut and a few well-placed highlights can counter facial sagging, he says. "And have some fun. One of the biggest trends right now is the 70s influence. There is nothing wrong with a 50-year-old woman putting a braid on one side of her head. "

CLOTHES
Instead of: The "outfit"

Try: It's all about the right pieces
"If you're going to an event this summer, don't wear black pants, a dressy top, and a cardigan—it's very old lady-ish," says
Charla Krupp, author of How Not to Look Old. Krupp's other "don'ts" include little suits and matchy-matchy getups. You'll look chic and younger, she says, in white pants and high heels, or a simple dress. And then, ladies, pile on the wrist candy—"a lot of bangles, a big thick watch, tons of teeny elasticized bracelets." Eyewear can make a big difference, too, she says. "Check out Annette Bening's glasses in The Kids Are All Right.  (take a look.) Also, shake up the pedicure. "Red is so boring. Even wine, Wicked, and burgundies are getting stale. Put lavender on your toes. Blue, black...grey is really in." Whatever you do, just don't come off like you're trying too hard—which means, ta-ta, whirly skirts and mini bubble dresses. "Those look good if you're 12."

THE BODY
Instead of: Walking
Try: Walking backward
Don't get us wrong: Any exercise is good exercise. But moving nimbly is a subtle indicator of being young. "The key is motor plasticity," says Michael Gonzalez-Wallace, creator of the
Super Body, Super Brain program. "You need to continue to train the brain circuits responsible for movement." That means, instead of just walking or jogging, which you do automatically, you should periodically throw in a balance or coordination challenge: Walk backward, play basketball, take a ballet class, stand on one foot with your eyes closed. "Try one new activity a week," Gonzalez-Wallace suggests. "You just need a few minutes."

Whatever you do, remember the bigger picture, says Stephanie Dolgoff, whose book,
My Formerly Hot Life, comes out this month. "Dying your hair or filling in a frown line can definitely give you a little boost. But don't expect looking younger to make you happy. I saw a saying on a card once that said 'A smile is an instant facelift.'  I rolled my eyes at the time, but it's true. When you laugh, you can't see the wrinkles."

Team work and team building essentials

Team building skills are critical for your effectiveness as a manager or entrepreneur. And even if you are not in a management or leadership role yet, better understanding of team work can make you a more effective employee and give you an extra edge in your corporate office.
A team building success is when your team can accomplish something much bigger and work more effectively than a group of the same individuals working on their own. You have a strong synergy of individual contributions. But there are two critical factors in building a high performance team.
The first factor in team effectiveness is the diversity of skills and personalities. When people use their strengths in full, but can compensate for each other's weaknesses. When different personality types balance and complement each other.
The other critical element of team work success is that all the team efforts are directed towards the same clear goals, the team goals. This relies heavily on good communication in the team and the harmony in member relationships.
In real life, team work success rarely happens by itself, without focused team building efforts and activities. There is simply too much space for problems. For example, different personalities, instead of complementing and balancing each other, may build up conflicts. Or even worse, some people with similar personalities may start fighting for authority and dominance in certain areas of expertise. Even if the team goals are clear and accepted by everyone, there may be no team commitment to the group goals or no consensus on the means of achieving those goals: individuals in the team just follow their personal opinions and move in conflicting directions. There may be a lack of trust and openness that blocks the critical communication and leads to loss of coordination in the individual efforts. And on and on. This is why every team needs a good leader who is able to deal with all such team work issues.
Here are some additional team building ideas, techniques, and tips you can try when managing teams in your situation.
•Make sure that the team goals are totally clear and completely understood and accepted by each team member.
•Make sure there is complete clarity in who is responsible for what and avoid overlapping authority. For example, if there is a risk that two team members will be competing for control in certain area, try to divide that area into two distinct parts and give each more complete control in one of those parts, according to those individual's strengths and personal inclinations.
•Build trust with your team members by spending one-on-one time in an atmosphere of honesty and openness. Be loyal to your employees, if you expect the same.
•Allow your office team members build trust and openness between each other in team building activities and events. Give them some opportunities of extra social time with each other in an atmosphere that encourages open communication. For example in a group lunch on Friday. Though be careful with those corporate team building activities or events in which socializing competes too much with someone's family time.
•For issues that rely heavily on the team consensus and commitment, try to involve the whole team in the decision making process. For example, via group goal setting or group sessions with collective discussions of possible decision options or solution ideas. What you want to achieve here is that each team member feels his or her ownership in the final decision, solution, or idea. And the more he or she feels this way, the more likely he or she is to agree with and commit to the decided line of action, the more you build team commitment to the goals and decisions.
•When managing teams, make sure there are no blocked lines of communications and you and your people are kept fully informed.
Even when your team is spread over different locations, you can still maintain effective team communication. Just do your meetings online and slash your travel costs.
•Be careful with interpersonal issues. Recognize them early and deal with them in full.
•Don't miss opportunities to empower your employees. Say thank you or show appreciation of an individual team player's work.
•Don't limit yourself to negative feedback. Be fare. Whenever there is an opportunity, give positive feedback as well.
Finally, though team work and team building can offer many challenges, the pay off from a high performance team is well worth it.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND YOU

There are so many definition for the subject matter before and many people get the ideal behind the subject matter differently, while some are even confuse and don’t want to associate themselves to it but I tell you that if you stop reading this article you will miss out of important information that are provide in it but if you keep reading, I say congratulation.
Information cannot be acquire or source from the spot or from one source alone, that is why I have taken my time to write this article, enjoy as you read.

Computer is a machine that performs tasks, such as calculations or electronic communication, under the control of a set of instructions called a program. Programs usually reside within the computer and are retrieved and processed by the computer’s electronics. The program results are stored or routed to output devices, such as video display monitors or printers. Computers perform a wide variety of activities reliably, accurately, and quickly.

With the ever increasing use of computers, there is a necessity for every one of us to acquire the right skills and techniques of computing so as to be able to fit in into our jobs, professions without any hitch or fear.
Computer Appreciation and Proficiency is at the center stage in this millennium of Information Technology (IT) and you need the technical know-how because computer has been integrated into every sphere of life and every profession. After going to the best University, Polytechnic or College of Education, it is not surprising that when youths send and submit their CV to companies and organizations the question that will be thrown back at them is that “Are you a Computer Literate?” Why? This is because the company management already appreciates the relief the computer has brought to their work and performance.
People use computers in many ways. In business, computers track inventories with bar codes and scanners, check the credit status of customers, and transfer funds electronically. In homes, tiny computers embedded in the electronic circuitry of most appliances control the indoor temperature, operate home security systems, tell the time, and turn videocassette recorders (VCRs) on and off. Computers in automobiles regulate the flow of fuel, thereby increasing gas mileage, and are used in anti-theft systems. Computers also entertain, creating digitized sound on stereo systems or computer-animated features from a digitally encoded laser disc. Computer programs, or applications, exist to aid every level of education, from programs that teach simple addition or sentence construction to programs that teach advanced calculus. Educators use computers to track grades and communicate with students; with computer-controlled projection units, they can add graphics, sound, and animation to their communications. Computers are used extensively in scientific research to solve mathematical problems, investigate complicated data, or model systems that are too costly or impractical to build, such as testing the air flow around the next generation of aircraft. The military employs computers in sophisticated communications to encode and unscramble messages, and to keep track of personnel and supplies.

A Computer has more advanced and also easier to use. Improved speech recognition has made the operation of a computer easier. With their increasing power and versatility, computers simplify day-to-day life. Unfortunately, as computer use becomes more widespread, so do the opportunities for misuse. Computer hackers—people who illegally gain access to computer systems—often violate privacy and can tamper with or destroy records. Programs called viruses or worms can replicate and spread from computer to computer, erasing information or causing malfunctions. Other individuals have used computers to electronically embezzle funds and alter credit histories. New ethical issues also have arisen, such as how to regulate material on the Internet and the World Wide Web. Long-standing issues, such as privacy and freedom of expression, are being reexamined in light of the digital revolution. Individuals, companies, and governments are working to solve these problems through informed conversation, compromise, better computer security, and regulatory legislation. Other, exotic models of computation are being developed, including biological computing that uses living organisms, molecular computing that uses molecules with particular properties, and computing that uses deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), the basic unit of heredity, to store data and carry out operations.
The uses of quantum computers are use for code breaking and large database queries. Theorists of chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and physics are now working to determine the possibilities and limitations of quantum computing.
Communications between computer users and networks will benefit from new technologies such as broadband communication systems that can carry significantly more data faster or more conveniently to and from the vast interconnected databases that continue to grow in number and type.
So like I did tell you, I guess this article has enlightened you about computer and its appreciation.

May Foundation Interactive Health Seminar (MFIHS) Edition 3.0

Good health is an essential to happiness, and happiness is an essential to good citizenship. -Charles Horace Mayo (U.S. Physician)

May Foundation Crew invites you to participate as our GUEST in the forthcoming May Foundation Interactive Health Seminar (MFIHS) 2011 Edition.
This MFIHS 2011 Edition will focus on how to assess your nutrition know-how and will provide you with easy ways to improve your diet, manage your weight, boost your energy level, and prevent diseases.
Experts estimate that at least 35 percent of all cancers are related to diet. MFIHS 2011 Edition explains how the foods you eat play a role in certain cancers and what you can do now to help lower your risk. Too often, individuals know the "value" of nutritional recommendations needed in their diet, but they lack the necessary information on "how" to implement these recommendations.

VALENTINE Day—Where Did It Come From?
DID you ever send or receive a valentine, a card or a gift? In many countries it is the custom to send them out for February 14, Valentine Day. It is supposed to be a day celebrated by lovers. But how did the custom start?
Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase and Fable says: “Valentine, St. A priest of Rome who was imprisoned for succouring persecuted Christians. He became a convert and, . . . he was clubbed to death. His day is 14 February. . .
“The ancient custom of choosing Valentines has only accidental relation to [the] saint, being essentially a relic of the old Roman Lupercalia . . . or from association with the mating season of birds. It was marked by the giving of presents and nowadays by the sending of a card on which cupids, transfixed hearts, etc., are depicted.”
And what does Cupid have to do with Valentine Day? The same source says: “Cupid (Lat[in] cupido, desire, love). The Roman god of love, identified with the Greek Eros. He is usually represented as a beautiful winged boy, blindfolded, and carrying a bow and arrows.”
The World Book Encyclopedia gives further information, offering various theories on the origin of Valentine Day practices. “According to one story, the Roman Emperor Claudius II in the A.D. 200’s forbade young men to marry. The emperor thought single men made better soldiers. A priest named Valentine disobeyed the emperor’s order and secretly married young couples. . . . Many stories say that Valentine was executed on February 14 about A.D. 269. In A.D. 496, Saint Pope Gelasius I named February 14 as St. Valentine’s Day.”
Regardless of the true origin of the practice, it is evident that it is rooted in ancient pagan beliefs and in Christendom’s listing of so-called “saints.” Valentine Day is also another excuse for commercial exploitation of an often uninformed public.—2 Corinthians 6:14-18.
